Day 16 A day near Mathis Texas

These were pictures and birds sighted the last two days near Mathis Texas.This is scrub or "Brush"  country for the most part and we drove many of the rural roads. Ironically Ruth saw both the Green Jay and the Golden Fronted Wodpecker in the Dairy Queen parking lot. Go figure!

This is 40 miles from Corpus Christi.

A flock of goats near Mathis, TX, The government used to subsidize
the herders, but since they stopped it, very few herds are large.

An Anhinga in a small pond  in rural Mathis. It is a "darter".

The fort at Lipantitlan is no more.
There is only a Mesquite grove.
It was recptured by the Texans twice. (read )

for 10 minutes to ID it.
