Day 10 April 12, 2016 Travel from Charleston SC to Shallot NC
Just a short entry tonight as first, we only took one photo today , and second when we went out to eat with friends we were so excited , we didn’t take a camera. So, perhaps we will catch up tomorrow.
The drive out of Charleston at 9:00 AM was filled with the usual post “rush hour”traffic, but we were on the north side by 9:30. There was on fender bender just at the Campground gate, so we went west to get around it and came back in a circle or so.

The road for 30 miles north of Charleston SC into NC It did not vary. |

The road in the photo shows the many miles between Charleston and Georgetown are pretty much devoid of any visible habitation or activity. One thing we did note was that there are many historic ‘plantations’ that have been made into tourist attractions (historic sites?) all along the road. I counted five in one 10 mile stretch then stopped counting. (I will come back to this after research). Also we went through the town of ‘Little River’ that does NOT have a casino. (Michigan local story)
Travel around Myrtle Beach was traffic light after traffic light. I think someone said there were 39 traffic lights on US 17 at that point. We were told to take a turn to get on what is called the “By pass” and that saved probably more than an hour of time.
Our campground is a small one with only 6 transit sites (we reserved ours) , and we were able to set up before the rain came back, as it had been a sprinkle off and on all day.
As I said earlier , this will be short, but tomorrow should more than make up for it. More seafood, a ferry ride, birds and more. See ya.
