Day 23, Tues.,April 24, 2018, Moved from Rockport to Harlingen. Laundry day... Very hot at 90 F

We had things ready to go abut 9:00 and were on the road at 9:15.  Jim was not quite with it in the morning and forgot the mirrors, the automatic hoist stopped working (we have manual backup), and he almost ran over one of our deck chairs tat Ruth had moved fro the back of the trailer tomthe back of the truck. HMMM? by backing up over it (I missed it!)

Then it got better as we headed for Harlingen, near the Rio Grande. Th road was good, and getting through Corpus Christi went smoothly, and we headed through the crop land that had changed from mostly corn, to much sorghum being grown.  There were few cattle (mostly in north and central TX). A stop at Raymondsville for lunch at a Subway. Salad  sandwich and chocolate milk.

The stretch along US 77 contains  the very large King Ranch, which has many locked entrances we observed as we rode by. That stretch of road also has an excellent roadside park (Rest Area) which has colored tiled walls  in a western style, and many benches under the live oaks. The flowers are fantastic and I have to search to find their names. (I did!)

Turks Cap. It never opens fully.

Esperanza

A beautiful butterfly attractor (Hummers too) is this Pride of Barbados.

The Pride of Barbados Shrub.

A favorite anywhere is the Azalea

But we arrived earlier than usual as it was only a 190 mile ride.  The park was ready for us and had a site picked out but the mgr. closes the office at 1:00 and it was almost 2:00 PM. "Randy"  appeared just as I was about to call the number asked for.   He had  a site ready for us and escorted us to it. It was near the office and the laundry so we decided to get that done.

While setting up the trailer  as we usually do, we had backed the truck in at a quite sharp angle , so getting it on the blocks hoist was not difficult, but it puts a strain on the levelers. Sure enough, after Ruth had finished with the levelers, the trailer jumped about 4 inches almost sliding off the blocks on the tongue. Only an inch or two  before it would have fallen to the ground and possibly twisted the levelers. I quickly got our pneumatic jack (unused in years) and placed it under the front frame and got it (the trailer)  off the ground enough to straighten the blocks. WHEW! Always good to have a jack in the rig.

After that, as the temperature was 90 and we were sweating profusely, we decided as long as we were wet, we should do the laundry, and that would leave us full days ahead. It was just a short walk across the street  and by 5:00 it was finished. $1.50 wash (45 min) and $1.00 dry. (45 minutes).   They were very clean and efficient washers. I should have jumped into the pool across the street, but will do that when t gets hot! HA!

Had supper and got the computer going to post those two late Blogs.

Supper time in the trailer.
Tomorrow we will attempt to stay cool in the truck with some "drive arounds" as opposed to "walk arounds".

Jim Stevenson stated today that the migrants did come trough the day after we left. We were that close. We will be fine here in the Rio Granbde Valley.
