Trip Day 25 Tuesday May 18 at Martinsville VA  —Visit to Keisers.

The trip to Roanoke to visit Cathy and Bruce Keiser was the key item on the agenda today. It started to rain at about 8:00AM  but stopped by 10:00 AM. We worked on the internet and Ruth was able to get on here in the trailer, for a spell, allowing her to download what she needed. I could not get on however.

Cathy was going to spread a lunch for us  so we didn’t have to pack one.

The route was west on US 220 all the way. This is a very hilly (foothills of the Appalachian Mountains,) so it was very winding and hilly and curvy (same as winding?). There are many trucks even though it is 4 lanes (2 each way) it is crowded and with the curves traffic jams up from time to time. Coming back was less crowded.

At noon we arrived and found our way to their home nestled in the hills of NE Roanoke. They look out on the Blue Ridge Parkway and can see the traffic in the winter quite clearly.

The visit had us share family activities  and events of the households as well. Bruce is going to attack the kitchen next with new cupboards, counter tops (Marble) and strip the wallpaper and paint the walls. He indicated that a new deck is in the offing somewhere in the near future as it was rotting out in places.

Cathy has many of her mother’s flowers and the coral bells were magnificent among others. We were brought up to date on Emily and Erik’s status. He in the Navy aboard ship in the mideast at present.
The lunch was a large “buffet” so to speak and there was plenty for all and then some. Thanks Cathy.

Their neighborhood is a collection of very up and down hilly streets quite spread out  and when the snow comes it can be a “trouble” time if it stays on the ground very long. This winter was like that.

We walked the yard and examined the flowers and trees, and took a few photos before heading for home. A huge Japanese Maple stands by the front entrance.

At 3:45 we arrived back in town and headed for the Walgreen’s to see if Ruth’s needed prescription had arrived. It had not so we went again after dinner. Dinner was eating out for the second time in a restaurant since March 2020. It was “Captain Tom’s Seafood”. Big portions  they were. (I had a “Mate’s plate”) It had shrimp, chicken, crab cake in a crab shell, and broccoli, with a cup of slaw as they call it here.  Average fare but it was filling.

Then we picked up the prescription and headed back to the trailer, just a long block away.

On Thursday we will travel that same road with the trailer. We will travel much slower, however, as they were moving along 15-20mph past the posted speed limit.

Looks like tomorrow is a laundry day!

Catch you tomorrow. 2021
