Day 33- Yankton SD, Laundry, truck wash, groceries and a new bird!

Harris' Sparrow. Black on head and throat.

And you thought that this was going to be a mundane."do the laundry" type of day, eh? Well we don't just look for birds on our "work days", we look for birds ALL THE TIME, Just tonight after supper while taking a walk in the RV Park (A KOA) I spotted a bird that we had seen during the day close to the trailer, but could not identify it. I was fortunate enough to observe the bird(s) for about 10 minutes as they sat motionless on a pile of brush and on a dead cornstalk at the back of the campground. (This campground's official name is "KOA Missuri River Campground".)   I studied the bird carefully noting that although it looked like a Song Sparrow or a Lincoln Sparrow (both similar) it had something very different about it. There was black on the chest and on the head, where few of the other sparrows had any black. The light went on , when I got back to look at the bird book (Sibley's)  and said "VOILA, PIERRE,  I have found it."  It was certainly a Harris' Sparrow.

The laundry did indeed get done and for the second time on this  Friday morning we were the only ones in the Laundramat the entre time.  After getting Ruth started, ( I put in the quarters usually)  I took the truck to find a part for the screen door for the latch that had broken. I had put one on three weeks go. I found it after searching some RV places. Then a truck wash,  as it was very "buggy", and finally filled the tank with petrol.  It ws #2.29/gal. here this AM.  I did find a place that sold post cards but they are getting fewer and far between. Guess where? In a restaurant called 'Jo Jean's' and they have a Friday and Saturday Seafood buffet which we will try tomorrow.  Looking forward to that.

The rest of the day after lunch (I finised the Beef    and rice from the night before. ) we worked on pictures, lists, future sites for birds and wrote e- mails and notes.

Supper was a favorite of ours , toasted cheese sandwiches with no soup, but a salad for a change.

"Stockman's" is a large cattle sale business here in Yankton.
There was  huge sale there today and many cattle trucks.

The weather was up to 69 F today and overcast with rain around us but not here yet. Tomorrow it looks like 80% chance so we should get some.  There has been no wind since we arrived. We will probably do bird watching along the Missouri River where there will be waterfowl at least.   See ya then. Here are a few pics to end the day.
